Search and Rescue Expert Group

The Search and Rescue Expert Group, SAR EG, has been part of the EPPR since 2015. The focus of the SAR EG work is to facilitate the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation in Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue in the Arctic, identify key lessons and best practices on Arctic incidents and SAR exercises and to enhance cooperation.

The main areas of work

  • Facilitating high-level, inter-governmental discourse on Arctic SAR issues and assessing the implementation of the Arctic SAR Agreement
  • Collaborating with relevant bodies, Working Groups and academia to compile, identify and analyse best practices and recommendations related to Arctic SAR issues
  • Communicating and disseminating research and knowledge and sharing information to reduce, prevent and to respond to the impact of SAR incidents in the Arctic
  • Supporting and evaluating exercises and live incident reports
